How fast will hashing be on my computer?

It depends on your CPU and disk — rough reference points (Chrome on a typical laptop):

Memory use stays constant (4 MB slices), so large masters are safe on 4 GB machines. Heavy background tasks (video editing, antivirus scans) slow it down.
